This Privacy Policy explains what personal data RORA collects, how it is used, and the choices available to users.
Thank you for choosing RORA. RORA, made by Flynch MB ("Flynch," "we," or "us"), is an aurora forecast and alert app: it estimates the chance of seeing the northern or southern lights from your place, and can notify you when that chance is high. RORA has no account system. It keeps most of its data on your device; the only data we store on our own server is what is needed to send aurora alerts.
If you do not agree with this Policy, please discontinue use of the Service. Capitalized terms not defined here have the meanings given in the RORA Terms of Service.
RORA needs one place to forecast for. You can choose it in two ways:
The chosen place (its name, latitude, longitude, and time zone) is stored on your device. You can change it at any time in the app. You can also refuse or withdraw the location permission in your device settings and search for a city instead.
To build the forecast, the app downloads space weather data from the U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), which receives no information about your place, and cloud cover for your place from a weather service. For the cloud cover request, the coordinates are rounded to about one kilometer. The map on the Alerts screen is drawn by Apple Maps (iPhone) or Google Maps (Android) around your place.
If you turn on aurora alerts (a RORA Pro feature) and allow notifications, the app sends the following to our alert server:
Every 15 minutes, the server calculates the aurora chance for each place and sends an alert when your threshold is passed. To check that alerts are part of an active subscription, the server asks our subscription provider whether your install identifier has RORA Pro.
RORA also keeps on your device: your alert settings, preferences (such as haptics), whether you finished the introduction, the recent forecast for your place (so the app and its widgets open quickly), and whether RORA Pro is unlocked. Home Screen and Lock Screen widgets read this data on your device. Deleting the app deletes this data.
RORA Pro subscriptions are purchased through the Apple App Store on iPhone or Google Play on Android, and managed with RevenueCat. RevenueCat receives the anonymous install identifier and purchase metadata (plan, price, currency, trial and renewal state), so your subscription can be restored on another device signed in to the same Apple ID or Google account. Payment itself is processed by Apple or Google — we never see your name, card number, or billing details.
The RORA app contains no advertising SDKs and no third-party analytics SDKs. We do not build behavioral profiles and we do not sell personal data. If we add privacy-friendly usage analytics in the future, we will update this Policy first.
When you share tonight's forecast, the image is made on your device and handed to the share sheet you choose. We do not receive it.
When you contact hello@theflynch.com, we collect the information you provide, including attachments, to respond and improve our services.
We use the data described above to:
Where GDPR or similar laws apply, we process personal data based on:
We do not sell your personal data. Data leaves your device only to the following categories of recipients, each to the extent needed to provide the Service:
Data on your device stays until you delete the app. On our alert server, your install's record is kept while alerts are set up for it. It is deleted when the notification service reports that the app was removed from the device, or when you ask us to delete it. Turning alerts off in the app stops alerts at once. RevenueCat, Apple, and Google retain purchase records according to their own policies. You may request deletion of any support correspondence by contacting hello@theflynch.com.
We use technical, organizational, and administrative safeguards designed to protect personal information against unauthorized access, loss, misuse, or alteration, including transport encryption for all network requests and a server that accepts only the requests the app needs. No online service is completely secure; please keep your device and software updated and notify us of any suspected compromise.
We operate in the European Union and our alert server is in Germany. Some of our service providers are located in other countries, including the United States. When personal data is transferred internationally, we rely on appropriate safeguards, such as Standard Contractual Clauses, to protect your rights.
Depending on your location, you may have the right to:
You can change your place and alert settings in the app, and turn off location access or notifications in your device settings. To exercise any other right, email hello@theflynch.com. Because RORA has no account, we may ask for the place set in your app, so we can find your alert record.
RORA is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age required in your jurisdiction). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided personal data without proper consent, contact us so we can remove it.
The Service includes links to websites and platforms we do not control, such as the Apple App Store and Google Play. This Privacy Policy does not apply to those third parties. Review their policies before providing personal information.
If you are a California resident, you have the right to know the categories of personal information we collect, use, and disclose, as described in Sections 1–4. You may also request deletion of personal information, subject to exemptions under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA). We do not sell or share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising.
If you reside in the European Union, you may lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority. You can find contact details at https://edpb.europa.eu/about-edpb/about-edpb/members_en.
We may update this Policy to reflect changes in laws, technology, or our practices. When we make material changes, we will notify you by in-app notice or by posting an update on our website, and indicate the "Last updated" date at the top. Continued use of the Service after the effective date means you accept the revised Policy.
